Grace Walsingham, despises Scotland, she hates everything about it. She can’t stand it, the brogue that she can barely understand, the gaelic language that is difficult to learn, to the horrid tapestries and the warrior like culture. She misses England, and reluctantly agreed to stay for a month, to help her sisters. She is still shocked that her sister and her uncle are spies, and now wants to discover if she could be one too. But there is one Scot who drives her more crazy than the rest, Captain of the guard…Fagan Murray. Fagan would do anything for his Liard and close friend, but having to escort Grace around is up to the top of his tolerance level, she may be beautiful and graceful….but she is conceited and selfish to his mind, and will be relieved when he can take her back to England…back to her fiancée and out of his hair…..only there is one problem, they desire each other, and when they kiss…fireworks explode, now a hate has turned into a fierce desire, but there is an enemy out to destroy them, and only with Fagan and Grace working in unity will they be able to defeat the traitors who wish to destroy them.
Fagan is Captain of Laird Ruairi Sutherland’s Guard. Also one of his closest friend, and they are evenly matched in stamina and ability (despite the fact neither would care to admit it). What we see from Fagan is a Scottish warrior who is brave and honorable and patient. Whew he is like a saint when it comes to Grace especially. He also is great with the other sisters who despite their english roots are quite a handful more than most Scottish lasses. Fagan is what drew me into the story, I love how enduring he is with Grace, and sexy enough to melt the room. His character is quite different from other heroes by this author, what I enjoyed most was how he is portrayed as the “steady rock” of the story, always sure and sound, and reliable and right there when you need him the most.
Grace Walsingham was a heroine that had to grow on me. She eventually did….at the end. But it took 300 pages to do it. It’s a slow transformation that we see in Grace though. Unlike other Highlander romances I have read, where you join an English and a Scot together, Grace is quite a snob quite a bit actually. But from the beginning, you sense something more from her, that if she is put in the right circumstance, she can become something more than what she is portrayed and what she seems to be. You have to allow a wide learning curve with this character, but what I did enjoy was seeing her change slowly…and its bit by bit, it doesn’t happen overnight, but we see how its the small things that make the difference. So even though she wasn’t my favorite, I have to say that I was impressed with how Roberts made a heroine that you just don’t like in the beginning to one that you love by the end. That is pure talent in my opinion.
Kilts and Daggers is the second book in Robert’s most recent series. Now I haven’t read the first, and I probably should have especially since I have it on my nook, but just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. However I do feel like it can still be read as a stand alone. I just love Victoria Roberts….I read one of her other books last year and just couldn’t enough of it. I was pretty excited for this one though, and I did have quite an enjoyable time of it. Not quite what I was hoping for, but I did find many aspects quite worth the read, and the bantering in this story was superb. Oh I just loved everything about…and now I just have to read Ruairi and Ravenna’s story. What I also liked quite a bit was the side characters, because we see quite a bit of Ruairi and Ravenna and Ruairi son and the other younger sisters as well. And already some seeds of another sister and her story. Oh that should be a good one. From the beginning of this story I loved the hero and hated the heroine. Oh did I not like her!! She tends to be quite judgemental and a bit self-righteous of everything Scotland…no matter what it is. However our hero….is a angel…literally…oh how patient he is with her. I love how he handles her in such fun ways too! There is a danger and mystery aspect to the plot, and it slowly filters in from the beginning, so you have that added aspect. We also see a connection form between Grace and Fagan…and it starts out pretty small but then it builds into something stronger and solid. It’s not until they are really tested that I began to enjoy Grace. I wasn’t sure if I would end up liking her…but I did miraculously. I loved the dynamics of the plot and the way it weaved about it certain ways you didn’t exactly see at first. It sneaks up behind up in some portions and I enjoyed seeing it unravel and come together.
What a lovely cover…I love the nightly theme…the blues and purples. And can you say HOT Highlander? I mean really I see this cover and he is all I see LOL I could tape him on my wall and just look at him all day.
Kilts and Daggers is a tale of how opposites attract, two people who are as different as fire and ice….but a fierce passion erupts and a deep love builds between them. A story of personal growth, fighting for those you love, and sacrifice. THRILLING!
Taryn, is a latent wolf shifter, and all of her life, she has been judged and considered weaker despite the fact that she is a dominant female. She is fierce and feisty and doesn’t back down from a fight. She is enraged when she wakes up after being drugged, and the crazy Alpha of the Phoenix pack, doesn’t stir at her anger, only smirks. He needs her help, help that could help her get out of an arranged marriage that she doesn’t want. Trey Coleman, needs a mate for three months, to help get some alliances, to prevent his pack from being killed or merged into a pack that betrayed Trey and those that followed him. Taryn knows that mating temporarily could bring heartbreak to her wolf, but she needs a way to escape from her fathers plans for her, so she decides to mate with Trey. At first Trey and Taryn don’t let anything but sexual desire enter in their relationship, however soon despite their best efforts, a deeper bond forms, a bond that surprises both of them. But there is a danger to their pack, a battle is coming up and they will need to be all ready for it…
Trey, was abused as a child, his father, the Alpha of the pack, didn’t care about the abuse he handed to his oldest son. When Trey was a teenager, he killed his father, and doesn’t feel guilty, because his father deserved it. But because of his actions, his pack, the only home he had ever known, betrayed him and kicked him out, and those that followed him formed their own pack, the “Phoenix Pack”. They are a small number, but powerful. Trey is well-known as an alpha wolf who can go crazy and feral in a fight. No one gets away from fighting him alive. Trey has a magnetism to him, an alpha that is powerful and commanding, and full of possessive qualities. He was one hell of a hero, and boy could he make the temperature in the room rise to a dangerous level. Hot as a blazing fire.
Taryn, has never felt welcomed or loved by her father. She lost her mother at a young age, She has a latent wolf, meaning she will never fully shift. She can partially shift, especially if she is angry and ready for a fight. Taryn is practically being forced into a mating by her father, to a man that wants to turn her from a dominant to a submissive slave and she refuses to live a horrible life with a man who doesn’t care for her at all, but only sees her as a toy. Taryn is fierce, passionate, a dominant female, loves her unique phrases, and has a humor to lighten any mood. She was such a fun heroine, I don’t think I have ever read a heroine like her. She has two sides to her, but she is fun and easy-going and at the same time, is an alpha female, and knows how to fight her own way. I found her to be very refreshing
Feral Sins is the first book of the series. This is a new to me author, and what an author. I was able to have this be an audio book, and I really loved the narrator, except for a few of the sex scenes, for the most part she did an excellent job, however she went a little too much into the sex scenes that felt a bit off from the rest of the book. Other than that this story was beyond excellent. This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I definitely plan on reading more from her. I just love a fun shifter romance, and this series I have a feeling is going to be one that I will fall in love with easily. This is quite a hot and steamy romance, but at the same time, it also has quite a bit of focus on the building up of the plot. There is warning that there is a menage scene….well the version I read didn’t have that. So if that might keep you from reading this, don’t let it. From the very beginning I knew that I would fall in love with this story, and there isn’t anything I could complain about the plot or the building of the characters. We see great things that happen between the main couple, but also from the side characters. There is wonderful humor in this story, and there were a couple of characters such as Dominick with his cheesy sexual lines….that seriously made me burst out laughing quite a few times, that I am sure my roomies think I am crazy. What I also enjoyed was seeing Taryn and Trey battle things out and try to work out certain issues. They are both dominant alphas, so there is bound to be a bit of trouble. Trey is too serious and Taryn loves having fun–so they are like fire and ice….except together they become quite a driving force. This is a delightful romp of a romance, that brings together an intense sensuality, riveting excitement, captivating characters, and packed with everything that you need in a paranormal romance.
There are actually two different covers, this cover is more recent and I really love it more. I love couple poses like this, and I really love the blue hues, and the wolf image in the background.
Feral Sins is a riveting shifter love story, that is blazing hot, sweet yet spicy, and is beyond a delectable treat you can bite into!!!
Fiona Sinclair, is duty bound to marry the enemy of her clan, who was responsible for their mothers murder. The last thing she wants to do is marry the murders son, but King James has commanded it to happen, so in order to protect her clan. So Fiona goes ahead with marrying the enemy, never realizing that the enemy, Myles Campbell is not what she expected. Myles is frustrated that he is forced to marry a woman from a enemy clan, when he would prefer marrying a woman that he cares for. But when the King commanded this of him, he knew he must obey his King's decree, no matter how much he doesn't want to. his wife, Fiona, is furiating, stubborn and willful. She has a pride streak a mile wide, and is quite resistant to him, but he can't resist her, she is feisty and passionate. Two warriors of two seperate clans, forced into an alliance, and a union that will test their loyalty and honor and will the matters of the heart win...
Myles Campbell is his fathers son, and as the eldest has always done what was commanded of him. He grew up with love from his parents who taught him honor and courage. Myles is a man that has been taught to lead, and takes command of every situation, and when he marries a willful lass, he is determined to reign her in. But he soon learns that his wife is not the typical highland lass, that she despises him, but there is a desire he feels for her despite her hatred of him and everything Campbell. Myles was a magnifiscent hero, and what a character he was. He was so patient with Fiona's antics, and loved seeing him so patient and understand of her, despite her "willful" nature. He is hardworking and has integrity.
Fiona Sinclair, has grown up with the hatred with the Campbells, even though she was once betrothed to Myles before her mother was killed. She is furious that her brothers are forcing her to marry a man she despises, and that they would throw her to the wolves. Fiona hates Myles and doesn't hold back anything from him. She is full of pride, willful and stubborn, and sees a traitor around every corner. She is quite hard headed at times, but she is also honest to a fault and acts on what she believes is the right thing. I had some issues with the heroine, but her actions were quite entertaining, and her character is definitely very spitited.
This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I was able to read it in audio book format. It has been a little while since I have had the chance to read a audio book, and now that I have started it up again, I want to continue, I had forgotten how much I enjoy listening to audio books, especially since I do a ton of walking, but I decided to try this story out, and I just have a incredible weakness for a sexy highlander. I had no problem reading this one, and it didn't take me very long to get through it, and as a whole, I really enjoyed this one, but I did have some issues with it. Numnber one is the heroine, she really bothered me quite a bit. Now I love angsty romances, but this one I had a more difficult time with. She was pretty conceited, and not willing to compromise or work with Myles very well, and he was a angel compared to what she dished out. I just had so much sympanthy for the hero, because he was trying so hard to forget about the hatred between the clans, and accept their marriage. He understood that it wouldn't be roses and daisies, but he never gave up trying to make their marriage work. And even though he could get a bit impatient at times, he still came through as a honest and loyal soul that you just admire from the beginning. She does have hard feelings, and I understood why, but I had the hardest time fathoming why she could be so harsh at times, but don't worry, she isn't like this through all of it. She does redeem herself to me, and proves to be quite the heroine, and by the end I just ended up loving her character. What I found admirable about this story and the way that the author writes it, is the way she protrays human faults and attributes, how you see the positive and the negative. Other than this heroine, I had quite a fun time with this story. The narration was done really well, and she is very talented, and I loved the way she put in place the scottish brogue, which was a delighful touch. Highland Surrender is a love story that is about facing your fears and finding love when you least expect it. A story that test the dedication and loyalty to ones heart. If you love a good historical romance, with a fresh voice, this is a story you need to put at the top of your list. I do hope this author plans on more historical romances,
I adored this cover, and ever since I first saw it last year, I wanted to pick up the story. I love her dress, so elegant and classy. And her hair is such a beauitful golden red, if only I could make my hair look that well done. I love the pose of the hero behind the heroine, and those shoulders--delicious.
Highland Surrender is a riveting love story with the passion and history of the medieval time period, a time of war and mistrust, and passion of a people wanting their freedom. This is a tale of fierce desire, with vibrant charcters, and a plot that is packed with intigue and a sensuality you don't want to miss out on. INTOXICATING!
Where Darkness Lies is the second book in the latest series by Bella Jewel. Some months ago the first book was released and we saw the major players, in this story, which continues off from where the first book left off...which was a cliffhanger of sorts. We have Dimitri who is the son of Hendrix (hero of first book), and has some abandonment issues with his father. Dimitri has gone through hell when he was a teenager and there is one man on his mission for revenge...Hendrix. So Dimitri kidnaps Jess right in front of him. Jess has suffered her own hellish past, but Hendrix saved her and showed her a new way of living, and has been like the father she always dreamed of having. Now she is kidnapped, having no idea what Dimitri is really capable of...a man that makes her quiver in fear, but at the same time she feels a certain spark with him, one that she can't explain. Dimitri and Jess start to learn of each other and the importance of trust in a relationship, and soon that trust is to be tested in ways that they can't even imagine....
What a story!!! I just fell in love with this story...I honestly didn't know what would happen in this one. I recently fell in love with Bella Jewel, and I love a good pirate romance...and this one has a contemporary feel to it, which was different but was quite exciting and felt fresh in different ways. This story is very intense and dramatic at times, and had me on the edge of my seat...and I will be honest, it kept me up all night reading it!! Which doesn't happen too often anymore, but this story was one I have been anxiously waiting for ever since I read the first book.
The characters in the story are pretty dynamic and full of depth in their characters. There were some things I just didn't see until revealed. Dimitri, is a man bent on revenge for some pretty horrid things done to him in his past, and he blames his father for it, even though Hendrix had no clue about it. We see how Dimitri really struggled with this both emotionally and mentally. He is quite a powerful man, and surely can fight in a ring...whew he could definitely heat the room by about 10 degrees or more. I wouldn't mind having that man at my mercy, he is sexy and steamy HOT!! Despite his past, he knows how to give a girl a good time, but he also has his own issues and there is only one woman that can truly handle him, a woman that can't have sex. Jess has a horrid past, and has been sexually abused, and has never had a positive experience when it comes to the bedroom...she stays far away from it..until she finds herself at the mercy of Dimitri and she feels desire for the first time in her life. We see Jess grow as a character, and learn the meaning of trust especially when it comes to intimacy. Despite the fact that Dimitri is really rough around the edges, he changes around Jess...he is gentle at times and I enjoyed how he handles her past and the trauma and, and enjoyed how the emotional intimacy of this couple really comes through and they help each other heal from their pasts.
This story is quite intense at times, in every way.. If I had to pick my favorite aspect it would be the balance of emotional and physical intimacy that is put in this story, and Bella Jewel creates a gem of a story that captured by heart and attention. Very memorable and I found it to be packed with just about everything I love in a romance with this level of intensity. I do warn, it is not a light hearted romance...its full of tough issues and can get gritty and rough at times...but also it has it soft moments that wins your heart, there is so much about this story I adored. I loved the dynamics, the winning love story, and the real world issues that are brought to light, that create a love story to never forget. A JEWEL OF A READ!!
Vincent is the upcoming release to the Vampires In America series. Having read the whole series now I will say that I am super impressed with this author. Every time I read her, I just have the best time with her stories. This series is quite intense and fun and I love seeing these couples coming together. Vincent is the eighth installment in the series, and this story is where we leave the Lords in America and we see a new one about to come into play with Vincent. This series, for those who have yet to read D.B. Reynolds, is a story that is about Vampire Lords, who control territories across the globe, and the women they fall in love with.
In Vincent, we have a lieutenant that has worked his way up the ranks, in the Mexico territory. His power and influence is growing, and soon he will be able to take over the territory. When Raphael sends him a bounty hunter, to find a vampire, that is known among legends and myths, but could reveal truths that are necessary for Vincent success. The bounty hunter is: Lana Arnold. Lana has come to Mexico, to investigate and has been sent by Raphael and Cyn. She then meets Vincent, who is so out of her realm. Lana grew up as a tom boy, and works with her father, as a bounty hunter. She is strong and independent, but Vincent throws her off her game and she needs all her wits to keep up with him. He is power personified, but as they search together, they will run into dangers and intrigue that they don't expect, and truths will be revealed that will be a key to Vincent's past...
I really enjoyed this one, it had everything that I expected and after the previous book really set up this story, I was super excited to begin reading it. Most of the books in the series, are centered around territories in the states, but this one is set in the deserts of Mexico. I really enjoyed the setting and the chemistry between Vincent and Lana is sunburn worthy. They definitely know how to create some fires, but with dangers mixed in the plot, and some exciting adventures and mysteries, the story really is packed with some thrilling elements that is typical with Reynolds writing. What I enjoyed about this one, is that the connection between Vincent and Lana is slowly built up, and I had such a fun time with these two...they were a hoot!! They definitely met every expectation I had and more. The characters in this story has well developed and complimented each other pretty well. I loved seeing these two come together, working together, and build a relationship amidst the danger involved to them both.
Overall a powerful vampire romance that is guaranteed to win your heart. A story with a delightful mixture of sensuality, paranormal dangers, and a mystery to keep you guessing....STUNNING!!
I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Edelweiss and Avon Books.
The Duke's Guide To Correct Behavior, is the first book of the latest series by Megan Frampton...who is a new author to me. I will say that I was very impressed with this title....it had so much in it that I am looking for in a Regency Historical Romance, and in a solid and balanced story. The first thing that drew me to this story, was the idea of a hired governess. I always love a governess theme to a story, I always have, it's a style of a story that is so easy to relate with, and I had no problems connecting with the main characters of the story.
In this book, we have the hero: the Duke of Rutherford, Marcus is quite the character. I just adored him from page one. At first he appears to be your average rake who loves his drinking and his women and parties. But when he learns that his daughter's mother, has passed away, and that his child has no one to care for her, he steps in and takes responsibility. The first thing he does is hire a governess, Miss Lily Russell. Lily and her friends are trying to build up a business of governesses, and aiding women that need help. Lily going to work as a governess for a Duke is one sure way to get their business going. Lily feels a attraction the Marcus right away, but she also feels a emotional connection to her charge, a sweet little girl who just needs some loving.
There are quite a few things about this book that I really loved. The first thing was the family bond these three seem to form from the get go. There was such a charming tone to this story and the way Lily and Marcus are with each other. Marcus isn't your normal rake...I just adored him. At first he seems to be a scoundrel, but the moment that his daughter enters his life, his whole outlook changes. Marcus was never supposed to be the Duke, and was always treated as second best. But now he is a Duke, with more power than he knows what to do with. In this story, we a man that is honorable and dedicated fully to his daughter. When he starts to spending more time with Lily, there is desire, but we see a strong emotional side to their relationship form at the same time--which is not your average regency theme in any way. I loved seeing the balance of the plot, and how everything comes together in a perfectly good way. What I also liked was how devoted Marcus is to Lily, and it was quite riveting seeing this story evolve.
Overall a charming and sweet romance that won my heart. A story that is a delightful mix of witty characters, a gentle flow to the plot, a book that will pull the reader, and touch their hearts. WELL DONE!!
Before reading this one, I had heard many high reviews on this latest works from a favorite author of mine. I have adored her older books, and just had such a fun time with her work. She does one of my favorite sub genres...Medieval Scottish Highlands...I love this period in history, and its such a great starting point for a romance novel, and Sue Ellen Welfonder does a fantastic job in creating a world that takes you back in time, to a time of mystery, magic, and passion for the glens and the land.
The beginning of the story starts off with Sorley and Mirabelle, who met when they were mere teenagers, but Mirabelle hurt Sorley that night and he hasn't seen her until she comes into his room demanding that he bed her. Sorley is a man known as the "Hawk", he is well known to love women and be quite talented in the bedding. However he knows he can't just bed Mirabelle, she is innocent and he refuses to do it...at first. But he can't resist Mirabelle, she is beauty personified, and he knows that he can't resist the temptation. Mirabelle will do anything to escape a unwanted marriage, and sharing a night in bed with Sorley wouldn't be a hardship. As Mirabelle and Sorley enter into a battle of who surrenders first, a fierce love erupts and soon they will have to decide if their love is strong enough to face the future and an enemy that seeks to destroy them.
What I truly enjoyed about this story was seeing these two really find a working relationship. At first there is resistance and I enjoyed the sexual tension between the two. Quite a entertainment seeing the battle of wits...and I also liked the other plot of seeing Sorely's past and the past history we learn surrounding his birthright. I loved seeing Sorley's character develop as you dig deeper into the book. I liked the intensity and drama that this author places in the plot. It was so fun reading this one, and seeing the richness of the storyteller's voice that is evident on every page.
Overall a winner of a romance, that is vivid in detail, rich in history, characters written in depth and emotion, and a love story that will leave you with a tear in your eye, and a smile on your face!! SIMPLY LOVELY!!
I received A ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Edelweiss and Avon Books.
Never Judge A Lady Be Her Cover, is Chase's story, the one I have definitely been waiting on since this series first started. I have adored Sarah Maclean since her first book came out, which wasn't that long ago. And to this day I still have sweet memories of reading Nine Rules. In the previous three books of the serious, we have had some powerful romances done, but you see Chase and her strength, and I totally think that this last and final installment is the best book of the series. I don't even know why I enjoyed this one more than the others (and I enjoyed those quite a bit), but there was such a connection between Georgiana and Duncan, a connection that has always been there, but never acted upon until now.
The main focus of the story, is on Lady Georgiana, also known as owner and founder of London's famous gaming hell. Georgiana was once as a young girl, fell in love, abandoned, found herself pregnant and forced out by her family. She decided to make a name for herself, and get her revenge on those that scorn her, but knowing their secrets. Georgiana has a daughter, Caroline, who is a precocious nine year old, charming and sweet and doesn't let rumors get her down. Georgiana is determined to marry a man that is titled and give her daughter a future that they won't have without the protection of it. After seeing her partners and closest friends find love with their wives, she knows that her daughter comes first, and that she may never find love again. But then enters the hero of the story, Duncan, who is just as determined to uncover all of her secrets, including the real identity of Chase and setting Georgiana free from his "clutches".
The set up of the story is quite humorous, and trust me when I tell you that the moment you start reading you will find it near impossible to set this one down. It will worm its way slowly into your heart and refuse to let go until you finish it. I have to say that Sarah Maclean has outdone herself once again!!! But I am far from surprised, only delighted that every time she writes she only gets better and wins my heart every time!
Duncan is one powerful male....I just get tingles thinking about his character. He has his own power just as Georgiana does. He owns and runs a newspaper with all the latest gossip, that anyone that is anyone in London reads and devours...he has the power to redeem or ruin. He is intrigued with Georgiana, and is fascinated by her, and can't deny needing her. At first he just wants to bed her, because she is lovely and spirited, but there is so much more to her and he wants to uncover every layer one inch at a time. I loved seeing his slow pursuit of her, and seeing how sparks ignite and the connection they have starts to build. The heroine....well I just adored her character. She is strong and has a tough cover, but Duncan gets beneath her skin. It was quite a hoot to see these two get along and work through the rough spots and secrets that they keep from each other.
A charming romance with a plot that will leaving you breathless at the end. A story that is original, lively and amusing with each page turn. Buckle your seats, boys and girls, because this story will give you the most delicious ride....with depth and pleasure. INCOMPARABLE!!
