Book Review-Kilts and Daggers

Kilts and Daggers (Highland Spies) - Victoria Roberts

Summary

Grace Walsingham, despises Scotland, she hates everything about it. She can’t stand it, the brogue that she can barely understand, the gaelic language that is difficult to learn, to the horrid tapestries and the warrior like culture. She misses England, and reluctantly agreed to stay for a month, to help her sisters. She is still shocked that her sister and her uncle are spies, and now wants to discover if she could be one too. But there is one Scot who drives her more crazy than the rest, Captain of the guard…Fagan Murray. Fagan would do anything for his Liard and close friend, but having to escort Grace around is up to the top of his tolerance level, she may be beautiful and graceful….but she is conceited and selfish to his mind, and will be relieved when he can take her back to England…back to her fiancée and out of his hair…..only there is one problem, they desire each other, and when they kiss…fireworks explode, now a hate has turned into a fierce desire, but there is an enemy out to destroy them, and only with Fagan and Grace working in unity will they be able to defeat the traitors who wish to destroy them.

The Hero

Fagan is Captain of Laird Ruairi Sutherland’s Guard. Also one of his closest friend, and they are evenly matched in stamina and ability (despite the fact neither would care to admit it). What we see from Fagan is a Scottish warrior who is brave and honorable and patient. Whew he is like a saint when it comes to Grace especially. He also is great with the other sisters who despite their english roots are quite a handful more than most Scottish lasses. Fagan is what drew me into the story, I love how enduring he is with Grace, and sexy enough to melt the room. His character is quite different from other heroes by this author, what I enjoyed most was how he is portrayed as the “steady rock” of the story, always sure and sound, and reliable and right there when you need him the most.

The Heroine

Grace Walsingham was a heroine that had to grow on me. She eventually did….at the end. But it took 300 pages to do it. It’s a slow transformation that we see in Grace though. Unlike other Highlander romances I have read, where you join an English and a Scot together, Grace is quite a snob quite a bit actually. But from the beginning, you sense something more from her, that if she is put in the right circumstance, she can become something more than what she is portrayed and what she seems to be. You have to allow a wide learning curve with this character, but what I did enjoy was seeing her change slowly…and its bit by bit, it doesn’t happen overnight, but we see how its the small things that make the difference. So even though she wasn’t my favorite, I have to say that I was impressed with how Roberts made a heroine that you just don’t like in the beginning to one that you love by the end. That is pure talent in my opinion.

Plot and Story Line

Kilts and Daggers is the second book in Robert’s most recent series. Now I haven’t read the first, and I probably should have especially since I have it on my nook, but just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. However I do feel like it can still be read as a stand alone. I just love Victoria Roberts….I read one of her other books last year and just couldn’t enough of it. I was pretty excited for this one though, and I did have quite an enjoyable time of it. Not quite what I was hoping for, but I did find many aspects quite worth the read, and the bantering in this story was superb. Oh I just loved everything about…and now I just have to read Ruairi and Ravenna’s story. What I also liked quite a bit was the side characters, because we see quite a bit of Ruairi and Ravenna and Ruairi son and the other younger sisters as well. And already some seeds of another sister and her story. Oh that should be a good one. From the beginning of this story I loved the hero and hated the heroine. Oh did I not like her!! She tends to be quite judgemental and a bit self-righteous of everything Scotland…no matter what it is. However our hero….is a angel…literally…oh how patient he is with her. I love how he handles her in such fun ways too! There is a danger and mystery aspect to the plot, and it slowly filters in from the beginning, so you have that added aspect. We also see a connection form between Grace and Fagan…and it starts out pretty small but then it builds into something stronger and solid. It’s not until they are really tested that I began to enjoy Grace. I wasn’t sure if I would end up liking her…but I did miraculously. I loved the dynamics of the plot and the way it weaved about it certain ways you didn’t exactly see at first. It sneaks up behind up in some portions and I enjoyed seeing it unravel and come together.

The Cover

What a lovely cover…I love the nightly theme…the blues and purples. And can you say HOT Highlander? I mean really I see this cover and he is all I see LOL I could tape him on my wall and just look at him all day.

Overall View

Kilts and Daggers is a tale of how opposites attract, two people who are as different as fire and ice….but a fierce passion erupts and a deep love builds between them. A story of personal growth, fighting for those you love, and sacrifice. THRILLING!

Book Review-Feral Sins

Feral Sins (Phoenix Pack #1) - Suzanne Wright

Summary

Taryn, is a latent wolf shifter, and all of her life, she has been judged and considered weaker despite the fact that she is a dominant female. She is fierce and feisty and doesn’t back down from a fight. She is enraged when she wakes up after being drugged, and the crazy Alpha of the Phoenix pack, doesn’t stir at her anger, only smirks. He needs her help, help that could help her get out of an arranged marriage that she doesn’t want. Trey Coleman, needs a mate for three months, to help get some alliances, to prevent his pack from being killed or merged into a pack that betrayed Trey and those that followed him. Taryn knows that mating temporarily could bring heartbreak to her wolf, but she needs a way to escape from her fathers plans for her, so she decides to mate with Trey. At first Trey and Taryn don’t let anything but sexual desire enter in their relationship, however soon despite their best efforts, a deeper bond forms, a bond that surprises both of them. But there is a danger to their pack, a battle is coming up and they will need to be all ready for it…

The Hero

Trey, was abused as a child, his father, the Alpha of the pack, didn’t care about the abuse he handed to his oldest son. When Trey was a teenager, he killed his father, and doesn’t feel guilty, because his father deserved it. But because of his actions, his pack, the only home he had ever known, betrayed him and kicked him out, and those that followed him formed their own pack, the “Phoenix Pack”. They are a small number, but powerful. Trey is well-known as an alpha wolf who can go crazy and feral in a fight. No one gets away from fighting him alive. Trey has a magnetism to him, an alpha that is powerful and commanding, and full of possessive qualities. He was one hell of a hero, and boy could he make the temperature in the room rise to a dangerous level. Hot as a blazing fire.

The Heroine

Taryn, has never felt welcomed or loved by her father. She lost her mother at a young age, She has a latent wolf, meaning she will never fully shift. She can partially shift, especially if she is angry and ready for a fight. Taryn is practically being forced into a mating by her father, to a man that wants to turn her from a dominant to a submissive slave and she refuses to live a horrible life with a man who doesn’t care for her at all, but only sees her as a toy. Taryn is fierce, passionate, a dominant female, loves her unique phrases, and has a humor to lighten any mood. She was such a fun heroine, I don’t think I have ever read a heroine like her. She has two sides to her, but she is fun and easy-going and at the same time, is an alpha female, and knows how to fight her own way. I found her to be very refreshing

Plot and Story Line

Feral Sins is the first book of the series. This is a new to me author, and what an author. I was able to have this be an audio book, and I really loved the narrator, except for a few of the sex scenes, for the most part she did an excellent job, however she went a little too much into the sex scenes that felt a bit off from the rest of the book. Other than that this story was beyond excellent. This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I definitely plan on reading more from her. I just love a fun shifter romance, and this series I have a feeling is going to be one that I will fall in love with easily. This is quite a hot and steamy romance, but at the same time, it also has quite a bit of focus on the building up of the plot. There is warning that there is a menage scene….well the version I read didn’t have that. So if that might keep you from reading this, don’t let it. From the very beginning I knew that I would fall in love with this story, and there isn’t anything I could complain about the plot or the building of the characters. We see great things that happen between the main couple, but also from the side characters. There is wonderful humor in this story, and there were a couple of characters such as Dominick with his cheesy sexual lines….that seriously made me burst out laughing quite a few times, that I am sure my roomies think I am crazy. What I also enjoyed was seeing Taryn and Trey battle things out and try to work out certain issues. They are both dominant alphas, so there is bound to be a bit of trouble. Trey is too serious and Taryn loves having fun–so they are like fire and ice….except together they become quite a driving force.  This is a delightful romp of a romance, that brings together an intense sensuality, riveting excitement, captivating characters, and packed with everything that you need in a paranormal romance.

Cover

There are actually two different covers, this cover is more recent and I really love it more. I love couple poses like this, and I really love the blue hues, and the wolf image in the background.

Overall View

Feral Sins is a riveting shifter love story, that is blazing hot, sweet yet spicy, and is beyond a delectable treat you can bite into!!!

Book Review-Highland Surrender

Highland Surrender - Tracy Brogan

Summary

Fiona Sinclair, is duty bound to marry the enemy of her clan, who was responsible for their mothers murder. The last thing she wants to do is marry the murders son, but King James has commanded it to happen, so in order to protect her clan. So Fiona goes ahead with marrying the enemy, never realizing that the enemy, Myles Campbell is not what she expected. Myles is frustrated that he is forced to marry a woman from a enemy clan, when he would prefer marrying a woman that he cares for. But when the King commanded this of him, he knew he must obey his King's decree, no matter how much he doesn't want to. his wife, Fiona, is furiating, stubborn and willful. She has a pride streak a mile wide, and is quite resistant to him, but he can't resist her, she is feisty and passionate. Two warriors of two seperate clans, forced into an alliance, and a union that will test their loyalty and honor and will the matters of the heart win...

The Hero

Myles Campbell is his fathers son, and as the eldest has always done what was commanded of him. He grew up with love from his parents who taught him honor and courage. Myles is a man that has been taught to lead, and takes command of every situation, and when he marries a willful lass, he is determined to reign her in. But he soon learns that his wife is not the typical highland lass, that she despises him, but there is a desire he feels for her despite her hatred of him and everything Campbell. Myles was a magnifiscent hero, and what a character he was. He was so patient with Fiona's antics, and loved seeing him so patient and understand of her, despite her "willful" nature. He is hardworking and has integrity.

The Heroine

Fiona Sinclair, has grown up with the hatred with the Campbells, even though she was once betrothed to Myles before her mother was killed. She is furious that her brothers are forcing her to marry a man she despises, and that they would throw her to the wolves. Fiona hates Myles and doesn't hold back anything from him. She is full of pride, willful and stubborn, and sees a traitor around every corner. She is quite hard headed at times, but she is also honest to a fault and acts on what she believes is the right thing. I had some issues with the heroine, but her actions were quite entertaining, and her character is definitely very spitited.

Plot and Story Line

This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I was able to read it in audio book format. It has been a little while since I have had the chance to read a audio book, and now that I have started it up again, I want to continue, I had forgotten how much I enjoy listening to audio books, especially since I do a ton of walking, but I decided to try this story out, and I just have a incredible weakness for a sexy highlander. I had no problem reading this one, and it didn't take me very long to get through it, and as a whole, I really enjoyed this one, but I did have some issues with it. Numnber one is the heroine, she really bothered me quite a bit. Now I love angsty romances, but this one I had a more difficult time with. She was pretty conceited, and not willing to compromise or work with Myles very well, and he was a angel compared to what she dished out. I just had so much sympanthy for the hero, because he was trying so hard to forget about the hatred between the clans, and accept their marriage. He understood that it wouldn't be roses and daisies, but he never gave up trying to make their marriage work. And even though he could get a bit impatient at times, he still came through as a honest and loyal soul that you just admire from the beginning. She does have hard feelings, and I understood why, but I had the hardest time fathoming why she could be so harsh at times, but don't worry, she isn't like this through all of it. She does redeem herself to me, and proves to be quite the heroine, and by the end I just ended up loving her character. What I found admirable about this story and the way that the author writes it, is the way she protrays human faults and attributes, how you see the positive and the negative. Other than this heroine, I had quite a fun time with this story. The narration was done really well, and she is very talented, and I loved the way she put in place the scottish brogue, which was a delighful touch. Highland Surrender is a love story that is about facing your fears and finding love when you least expect it. A story that test the dedication and loyalty to ones heart. If you love a good historical romance, with a fresh voice, this is a story you need to put at the top of your list. I do hope this author plans on more historical romances,

The Cover

I adored this cover, and ever since I first saw it last year, I wanted to pick up the story. I love her dress, so elegant and classy. And her hair is such a beauitful golden red, if only I could make my hair look that well done. I love the pose of the hero behind the heroine, and those shoulders--delicious.

Overall View

Highland Surrender is a riveting love story with the passion and history of the medieval time period, a time of war and mistrust, and passion of a people wanting their freedom. This is a tale of fierce desire, with vibrant charcters, and a plot that is packed with intigue and a sensuality you don't want to miss out on.  INTOXICATING!

Review-Where Darkness Lies

Where Darkness Lies - Bella Jewel

Where Darkness Lies is the second book in the latest series by Bella Jewel. Some months ago the first book was released and we saw the major players, in this story, which continues off from where the first book left off...which was a cliffhanger of sorts. We have Dimitri who is the son of Hendrix (hero of first book), and has some abandonment issues with his father. Dimitri has gone through hell when he was a teenager and there is one man on his mission for revenge...Hendrix. So Dimitri kidnaps Jess right in front of him. Jess has suffered her own hellish past, but Hendrix saved her and showed her a new way of living, and has been like the father she always dreamed of having. Now she is kidnapped, having no idea what Dimitri is really capable of...a man that makes her quiver in fear, but at the same time she feels a certain spark with him, one that she can't explain. Dimitri and Jess start to learn of each other and the importance of trust in a relationship, and soon that trust is to be tested in ways that they can't even imagine....

What a story!!! I just fell in love with this story...I honestly didn't know what would happen in this one. I recently fell in love with Bella Jewel, and I love a good pirate romance...and this one has a contemporary feel to it, which was different but was quite exciting and felt fresh in different ways. This story is very intense and dramatic at times, and had me on the edge of my seat...and I will be honest, it kept me up all night reading it!! Which doesn't happen too often anymore, but this story was one I have been anxiously waiting for ever since I read the first book.

The characters in the story are pretty dynamic and full of depth in their characters. There were some things I just didn't see until revealed. Dimitri, is a man bent on revenge for some pretty horrid things done to him in his past, and he blames his father for it, even though Hendrix had no clue about it. We see how Dimitri really struggled with this both emotionally and mentally. He is quite a powerful man, and surely can fight in a ring...whew he could definitely heat the room by about 10 degrees or more. I wouldn't mind having that man at my mercy, he is sexy and steamy HOT!! Despite his past, he knows how to give a girl a good time, but he also has his own issues and there is only one woman that can truly handle him, a woman that can't have sex. Jess has a horrid past, and has been sexually abused, and has never had a positive experience when it comes to the bedroom...she stays far away from it..until she finds herself at the mercy of Dimitri and she feels desire for the first time in her life. We see Jess grow as a character, and learn the meaning of trust especially when it comes to intimacy. Despite the fact that Dimitri is really rough around the edges, he changes around Jess...he is gentle at times and I enjoyed how he handles her past and the trauma and, and enjoyed how the emotional intimacy of this couple really comes through and they help each other heal from their pasts.

This story is quite intense at times, in every way.. If I had to pick my favorite aspect it would be the balance of emotional and physical intimacy that is put in this story, and Bella Jewel creates a gem of a story that captured by heart and attention. Very memorable and I found it to be packed with just about everything I love in a romance with this level of intensity. I do warn, it is not a light hearted romance...its full of tough issues and can get gritty and rough at times...but also it has it soft moments that wins your heart, there is so much about this story I adored. I loved the dynamics, the winning love story, and the real world issues that are brought to light, that create a love story to never forget. A JEWEL OF A READ!!

Book Review-Vincent

Vincent - D.B. Reynolds

Vincent is the upcoming release to the Vampires In America series. Having read the whole series now I will say that I am super impressed with this author. Every time I read her, I just have the best time with her stories. This series is quite intense and fun and I love seeing these couples coming together. Vincent is the eighth installment in the series, and this story is where we leave the Lords in America and we see a new one about to come into play with Vincent. This series, for those who have yet to read D.B. Reynolds, is a story that is about Vampire Lords, who control territories across the globe, and the women they fall in love with.

In Vincent, we have a lieutenant that has worked his way up the ranks, in the Mexico territory. His power and influence is growing, and soon he will be able to take over the territory. When Raphael sends him a bounty hunter, to find a vampire, that is known among legends and myths, but could reveal truths that are necessary for Vincent success. The bounty hunter is: Lana Arnold. Lana has come to Mexico, to investigate and has been sent by Raphael and Cyn. She then meets Vincent, who is so out of her realm. Lana grew up as a tom boy, and works with her father, as a bounty hunter. She is strong and independent, but Vincent throws her off her game and she needs all her wits to keep up with him. He is power personified, but as they search together, they will run into dangers and intrigue that they don't expect, and truths will be revealed that will be a key to Vincent's past...

I really enjoyed this one, it had everything that I expected and after the previous book really set up this story, I was super excited to begin reading it. Most of the books in the series, are centered around territories in the states, but this one is set in the deserts of Mexico. I really enjoyed the setting and the chemistry between Vincent and Lana is sunburn worthy. They definitely know how to create some fires, but with dangers mixed in the plot, and some exciting adventures and mysteries, the story really is packed with some thrilling elements that is typical with Reynolds writing. What I enjoyed about this one, is that the connection between Vincent and Lana is slowly built up, and I had such a fun time with these two...they were a hoot!! They definitely met every expectation I had and more. The characters in this story has well developed and complimented each other pretty well. I loved seeing these two come together, working together, and build a relationship amidst the danger involved to them both.

Overall a powerful vampire romance that is guaranteed to win your heart. A story with a delightful mixture of sensuality, paranormal dangers, and a mystery to keep you guessing....STUNNING!!

Book Review-The Duke's Guide To Correct Behavior

The Duke's Guide to Correct Behavior - Megan Frampton

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Edelweiss and Avon Books.
The Duke's Guide To Correct Behavior, is the first book of the latest series by Megan Frampton...who is a new author to me.  I will say that I was very impressed with this title....it had so much in it that I am looking for in a Regency Historical Romance, and in a solid and balanced story. The first thing that drew me to this story, was the idea of a hired governess. I always love a governess theme to a story, I always have, it's a style of a story that is so easy to relate with, and I had no problems connecting with the main characters of the story.

In this book, we have the hero: the Duke of Rutherford, Marcus is quite the character. I just adored him from page one. At first he appears to be your average rake who loves his drinking and his women and parties. But when he learns that his daughter's mother, has passed away, and that his child has no one to care for her, he steps in and takes responsibility. The first thing he does is hire a governess, Miss Lily Russell. Lily  and her friends are trying to build up a business of governesses, and aiding women that need help. Lily going to work as a governess for a Duke is one sure way to get their business going. Lily feels a attraction the Marcus right away, but she also feels a emotional connection to her charge, a sweet little girl who just needs some loving.

There are quite a few things about this book that I really loved. The first thing was the family bond these three seem to form from the get go. There was such a charming tone to this story and the way Lily and Marcus are with each other. Marcus isn't your normal rake...I just adored him. At first he seems to be a scoundrel, but the moment that his daughter enters his life, his whole outlook changes. Marcus was never supposed to be the Duke, and was always treated as second best. But now he is a Duke, with more power than he knows what to do with. In this story, we a man that is honorable and dedicated fully to his daughter. When he starts to spending more time with Lily, there is desire, but we see a strong emotional side to their relationship form at the same time--which is not your average regency theme in any way. I loved seeing the balance of the plot, and how everything comes together in a perfectly good way. What I also liked was how devoted Marcus is to Lily, and it was quite riveting seeing this story evolve.

Overall a charming and sweet romance that won my heart. A story that is a delightful mix of witty characters, a gentle flow to the plot, a book that will pull the reader, and touch their hearts. WELL DONE!!

Book Review-To Love A Highlander

To Love A Highlander - Sue-Ellen Welfonder

Before reading this one, I had heard many high reviews on this latest works from a favorite author of mine. I have adored her older books, and just had such a fun time with her work. She does one of my favorite sub genres...Medieval Scottish Highlands...I love this period in history, and its such a great starting point for a romance novel, and Sue Ellen Welfonder does a fantastic job in creating a world that takes you back in time, to a time of mystery, magic, and passion for the glens and the land.

The beginning of the story starts off with Sorley and Mirabelle, who met when they were mere teenagers, but Mirabelle hurt Sorley that night and he hasn't seen her until she comes into his room demanding that he bed her. Sorley is a man known as the "Hawk", he is well known to love women and be quite talented in the bedding. However he knows he can't just bed Mirabelle, she is innocent and he refuses to do it...at first. But he can't resist Mirabelle, she is beauty personified, and he knows that he can't resist the temptation. Mirabelle will do anything to escape a unwanted marriage, and sharing a night in bed with Sorley wouldn't be a hardship. As Mirabelle and Sorley enter into a battle of who surrenders first, a fierce love erupts and soon they will have to decide if their love is strong enough to face the future and an enemy that seeks to destroy them.

What I truly enjoyed about this story was seeing these two really find a working relationship. At first there is resistance and I enjoyed the sexual tension between the two. Quite a entertainment seeing the battle of wits...and I also liked the other plot of seeing Sorely's past and the past history we learn surrounding his birthright. I loved seeing Sorley's character develop as you dig deeper into the book. I liked the intensity and drama that this author places in the plot. It was so fun reading this one, and seeing the richness of the storyteller's voice that is evident on every page.

Overall a winner of a romance, that is vivid in detail, rich in history, characters written in depth and emotion, and a love story that will leave you with a tear in your eye, and a smile on your face!! SIMPLY LOVELY!!

Review-Never Judge A Lady By Her Cover

Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover - Sarah MacLean

I received A ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Edelweiss and Avon Books.

Never Judge A Lady Be Her Cover, is Chase's story, the one I have definitely been waiting on since this series first started. I have adored Sarah Maclean since her first book came out, which wasn't that long ago. And to this day I still have sweet memories of reading Nine Rules. In the previous three books of the serious, we have had some powerful romances done, but you see Chase and her strength, and I totally think that this last and final installment is the best book of the series. I don't even know why I enjoyed this one more than the others (and I enjoyed those quite a bit), but there was such a connection between Georgiana and Duncan, a connection that has always been there, but never acted upon until now.

The main focus of the story, is on Lady Georgiana, also known as owner and founder of London's famous gaming hell. Georgiana was once as a young girl, fell in love, abandoned, found herself pregnant and forced out by her family. She decided to make a name for herself, and get her revenge on those that scorn her, but knowing their secrets. Georgiana has a daughter, Caroline, who is a precocious nine year old, charming and sweet and doesn't let rumors get her down. Georgiana is determined to marry a man that is titled and give her daughter a future that they won't have without the protection of it. After seeing her partners and closest friends find love with their wives, she knows that her daughter comes first, and that she may never find love again. But then enters the hero of the story, Duncan, who is just as determined to uncover all of her secrets, including the real identity of Chase and setting Georgiana free from his "clutches".

The set up of the story is quite humorous, and trust me when I tell you that the moment you start reading you will find it near impossible to set this one down. It will worm its way slowly into your heart and refuse to let go until you finish it. I have to say that Sarah Maclean has outdone herself once again!!! But I am far from surprised, only delighted that every time she writes she only gets better and wins my heart every time!

Duncan is one powerful male....I just get tingles thinking about his character. He has his own power just as Georgiana does. He owns and runs a newspaper with all the latest gossip, that anyone that is anyone in London reads and devours...he has the power to redeem or ruin. He is intrigued with Georgiana, and is fascinated by her, and can't deny needing her. At first he just wants to bed her, because she is lovely and spirited, but there is so much more to her and he wants to uncover every layer one inch at a time. I loved seeing his slow pursuit of her, and seeing how sparks ignite and the connection they have starts to build. The heroine....well I just adored her character. She is strong and has a tough cover, but Duncan gets beneath her skin. It was quite a hoot to see these two get along and work through the rough spots and secrets that they keep from each other.

A charming romance with a plot that will leaving you breathless at the end. A story that is original, lively and amusing with each page turn. Buckle your seats, boys and girls, because this story will give you the most delicious ride....with depth and pleasure. INCOMPARABLE!!

The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie (Mackenzies Series)

The Wicked Deeds of Daniel Mackenzie (Mackenzies Series) - Jennifer Ashley I will be honest when I reveal that I have had this in my library since it first came out last year. *gasp* I know....I know. When I bought it last year, I had many other books on my plate at the time, and I just totally kept forgetting to actually get my booty in gear and read this. Also ever since seeing Daniel from the first books in the series, I had high high expectations from this one, and was hoping I wouldn't get disappointed. Now when I first started reading this book, my mood was not getting better, it took a while for the story to get fully set up, so it is sad to say that was it fully what I wanted and expected from wicked scandalous Daniel Mackenzie? Not fully, no. *but wait* Don't go yet...I am just getting started on the review. So keep your pants, or skirt on, because it only gets better.

I will say that as I kept reading, the more involved I slowly started to get into the story, and the better is seemed to get. I think due to the circumstances surrounding the heroine of the story, it takes a while for the story to really get in gear and fly away...but fly it does---both literally and figuratively :). I will try to contain my excitement on some entertaining scenes and keep this spoil free (if that is possible...just a warning to you all who have yet to read this delight!!).

I first want to discuss the characters of the story The hero: Daniel Mackenzie, son of Cameron Mackenzie. Now despite Daniel seeming on the surface to be a rake and scoundrel--which he is definitely all of that, he definitely is pretty complex. He has different qualities from his father and uncles. The one quality that overrides the other is my favorite--Ian Mackenzie. Ian is very different from the rest of the family, very unique and focused on certain things, and the way he is with Beth and his kids is just tender and charming. But he is a scientist and can spend hours and hours on a subject without realizing the passing of time. Daniel is very much like Ian in that way, he loves machines and is a scientist in his own right. And it is very evident in this story and we begin to see a whole different side to Daniel that I adored seeing. Now for the heroine: Violet Bastien, she is very original and unique to the series. She definitely has many qualities that you just never see coming in a a character from Ashley, flawed but also fun and strong and fiercely independent. Violet suffered a trauma early in her life, and has had to live with her mother on the run, posing as spiritual mediums. In Violets mind, its a matter of survival, even knowing they are lying to people for money. Violet is so courageous, I really liked her character, and a fighter and spirited--you have no problem relating with her at times. I love that she isn't this gorgeous all perfect heroine that could do no wrong. One of the things I adored about her character, was how human she seemed to be.

The story itself, is pretty ongoing, and keep you guessing. In the beginning of the story, Daniel saves Violet from a man that is set out to destroy her. But after sharing a passionate embrace, she clobbers him on the head, he wakes up to find her gone. When he fins her again, in Marseilles, he sets out to charm and seduce her. Daniel can't get this mysterious woman out of his mind. He is fascinated and we see how dedicated he is to her from the beginning. He doesn't seem to care that much about her "career" or that she keeps trying to run from him. But Daniel is very persistent, and slowly shows her passion and we begin to see a more deeper side to their relationship as the story continues. Daniel and Violet, do know how to have fun together, and the family readily accept Violet and seeing all these characters again just made me want to read the series again.

Overall I found this installment to be exciting, full of adventures, set in beautiful France, with plenty of heated scenes to fog up the windows this winter, a story that is packed full of romance, endearing characters, and quite a whopper of a story!! A GEM!!

Lady Elinor's Wicked Adventures

Lady Elinor's Wicked Adventures - Lillian Marek I think what first drew me to the book, was this beautiful cover!! This is Lillian Marek's debut novel, and I didn't know what to expect to be honest, since this is her first book, but I had quite a adventure reading this one. Lillian Marek sure knows how to write a outstanding romance, and it was evident from the first few pages. Especially with first novels from authors, it will take me awhile to get into the story, but no way was that the case with this one. I was hooked from the start.

The story begins with seeing how comfortable Harry and Elinor are with each other. They grew up together, Harry is Elinor's brothers best friend, and Elinor unlike most other English ladies, grew up climbing trees and fishing. She is spritied, headstrong and loves adventure. She has loved Harry most of her life, Harry has been gone for four years from traveling. Elinor has yet to get married, and when he returns, she starts to realize why she can't be another man, because her heart has always belonged to Harry, she just has to convince him of that. Harry feels the same way, but instead of going out to seduce her, he steers clear away from her. His parents are scandalous and he is ashamed of his parenthood and refuses to contaminate Elinor that way. But when her mother pleads with him to accompany them on a trip to Italy, he can't refuse, even though it will be torture for him to be so close to Elinor, aching for her but won't be able to have her.

Well Elinor is the alpha male in this portion of the story, she is like a train no stopping or changing direction from what or who she really wants. Amidst the travels, Harry begins to learn that he can't resist Elinor any longer, he just has to have her and damn the consequences. It was quite fun seeing these two trying to muddle along, both loving each other, but not realizing it at all. There was so many scenes that just had me laughing out loud, and they were quite the pair. I just couldn't get enough of these two. I felt so energized while reading this one, and it had a tone to the story that just lifted me up and made me forget all the stresses of life and delve into this romance that was packed full of adventure, some villains, princes, buried treasure and intrigues of french revolutionaries...this one had it all!! Everything I was looking for and expecting...and even more! There is also a side romance, involving Elinor's brother--which was fascinating to see.

Overall this romance was well put together, the voice of the author fresh as a bundle of daisies in the spring, with heartwarming romance, sizzling passion, witty humor, and entertaining characters!! A FUN HISTORICAL RIDE!!

A Rake by Any Other Name

A Rake by Any Other Name - Mia Marlowe Mia Marlowe has been on my list for quite some time, I even have a couple of her books on my Nook, because her books are so low priced, that I just couldn't resist, but I have yet to read her until now. I started noticing her more when she started writing with Connie Masson (who is personal favorite), and afte4r reading A Rake by Any Other Name...I see why. This was so delectable and romantic and I loved each moment of it. I can indeed tell you right now this won't be the last time I read this author, she won me over completely.

The story begins when Richard Barrett (The Hero ) finds a servant chopping away at his gran's precious rose bush. He is outraged that a mere slip of a girl would do such a thing to the heir of Somerset. But little does he know that 'slip of a girl' is the woman he is suppose to marry to secure a fortune and save his families lands and the tenants that reside there. Richard soon learns that his family's coffers are so depleted that they might have to start selling off paintings and jewelry. That is the last thing that Richard would have, but he always wants to marry someone else, a woman that makes him laugh and he can see sharing a life with...until he starts spending more time with Sophie Goodnight...a woman that is so unique and is like fresh air. (Our Heroine) Sophia Goodnight, is not your normal English miss. In fact, she is the very opposite from the norm. She grew up in India, where her father accumulated his wealth, but her father's one desire for her is to marry a titled lord. That is the last thing she wants, she wants more from a marriage than just her wealth, a man to want her for who she truly is. She care's less for pomp and society's gossip's, she would prefer to live her life in a cottage somewhere, not feeling beholden to anyone. When she meets Richard, her view changes, because even though at first she tries to put Richard and his love together, she realizes how she wants him for herself, he stirs passion and desire and feelings she wished would remain buried but overwhelm her.

This story was a blast of romantic fun!! I had no hard time getting into this book, it won me over from the very beginning. Richard and Sophie were such a great pair, and they do make sparks whenever they are near each other. The story unfolds in a way that you don't see coming, and the ending...way different than I ever imagined...and made me excited for the second one to come out. I can hardly wait to try more from this author. This book is a story that will draw you in, a sweet and tender love story that is guaranteed to make you laugh and give you quite a entertaining interlude from reality. HEARTWARMING!!

Bound by Fire

Bound by Fire - Tracey Jane Jackson I recently have fallen in love with Tracey Jane Jackson, and so far I have loved this series. This is the second book, and I decided it would be good to read this series in order...so I am. Bound By Fire, revolves around Pepper and Connall. Both of these characters we see from the first book. Connall is the brother of Kade (The King of the Caulde Ane). His mate, is Pepper's best friend. Pepper has been keeping secrets from everyone that she knows and loves, but only to protect them. When she gets herslelf in a situation she has no way out of, she meets Connall who senses the panic of his mate. Connall has gone hundreds of years, without the hope of a mate until he meets Pepper, and then he knows that she is his destiny.

This was such a intense yet romantic story that just has totally won me over. From the first book, I could tell I would adore this series and so far my instinct is right. I love the voice of this storyteller, that has created a world that is full of mystery and magic. I really enjoyed the take on this installment, and how different it was from the first book. We see such a deep development of characters in this story, and I enjoyed Pepper--she has pizazz and spunk. She is a fighter and boy does she argue with Connall in every moment---quite enjoyable seeing their interactions with each other. Connall...is well very swoon worthy, he was such a great hero, and I loved him from the beginning. He definitely deserves someone that can handle him, and Pepper keeps him on his toes.

Overall a fun and intense plot that kept me on edge and without being descriptive, a fully romantic and sensual romance that will have you craving for more. A sweet and poignant story to keep a tissue on hand. SIMPLY WONDERFUL!!

Not Quite A Gentleman

Not Quite A Gentleman - Jacquie D'Alessandro Jacquie D'Allesandro is a author that I have been reading since I first became hooked on romance. Whenever I see her name, I always think of her fondly, because her books are always fun and full of
adventure and unique plots that you don't see right away. I haven't had the chance to read her a ton though, but Not Quite A Gentleman has been on my TBR pile for quite some time and so I decided that I would try to bring that pile a inch or two lower by picking this one up from the shelves. I am very glad that I did.

This story is one that involves a ex spy doctor who tends to collect animals wherever he goes. His match in every way: the ever proud Lady Victoria Wexhall. Victoria first meets Nathan, when he steals a kiss that changes her life, but never to see him again. Now its been three years, and their lives are much different. Nathan is no longer a spy working for her father, he has been "forced" to resign over something that wasn't his fault, but was accused anyway...not he is a country doctor, content with his life. Until he learns that Victoria's life is in danger, and only Nathan can protect her, and seeing her again might lead him back into a life of redemption. There are some missing jewels, that he lost by a unknown enemy, three years ago, jewels that belong to the Crown. His mission now: Protect Victoria and find those missing jewels, believed to be in the area. So Victoria and Nathan join forces, and a passion erupts between them. Neither Nathan or Victoria really want to be attracted to each other...but each time they kiss...its like magic and they can't resist how the fireworks that seem to erupt when they are near each other.

I love historical espionage romances...they are so fun to read at times..especially when one is in the mood for them. Which at the time I was reading this, I was in the mood for it. I was hoping that this would be a story to remember...and it certainly was. There was many things that I enjoyed about this story, but there was a couple of things I did have some issues with. The flow of the story...I wish it was as smooth as whipped cream, but I am sorry to say it wasn't like that. I had a hard time sometimes keeping up with the story. After I finished the book, it seemed like overall, it didn't have a smooth flow of story line that I am used to, so it tended to be a bit rough around the edges but I found the story itself to be enchanting. The plot was evenly paced, I didn't feel like it was too slow going, or too quickly moving...just right. It was a perfect read for a nice crisp fall morning. I really enjoyed the sensual encounters between Nathan and Victoria...much more erotic than I would expect...but they were playful too. It was interesting seeing these two learn each other both physically and emotionally....seeing them really build up a relationship, and what a romance this turned out to be. Phenomenal in every way.

The characters themselves...were just fantastic, I had no issues with either of them. In fact, I liked them both really well. Another problem I had with the book, was I wasn't able to connect with the characters fully in the way I enjoy doing most of the time. They were both really well developed and they had fun interactions...but I guess I couldn't connect with them 100% and that detracted enjoyment I would normally get. However saying that...I want to say I really loved both Nathan and Victoria. Nathan...well he is the type of hero to make you whimper....I loved him!! He is such a romantic...you would never see a ex spy and practical doctor being so sentimental at times...and I loved the way he wooed Victoria. It was endearing and I just wished I could trade places with the heroine so I could experience a bit of courting, that was so romantic...I wanted to cry in envy. Now onto Victoria....so is a good match for Nathan. She doesn't hold anything back and I really liked that quality about her. She is very upfront and loyal and I really felt I could admire her. The only thing I would change is wishing that she would fight for Nathan a bit more...I don't want to spoil the story, but I do wish she had been a bit more challenging in that regard.

Overall I found Not Quite a Gentleman to be a story of redemption, spicy romance, throw in some suspense and mystery....and you have a delightful love story that is bound to give you tingles and a smile on your face!! ORIGINAL AND EXCITING!!

Shield of Winter

Shield of Winter - Nalini Singh Vasic, is a Arrow, trained since he was four years old to be a assasin for his people, to take orders and execute with no hesitation. The Psy are changing, with silence no longer existing, a new leader for their people, times are changing. When Kaleb Krychek, requests that he finds a group of empaths, and stop the wave of death that is sweeping across their people. Ivy, is a Empath, and when she meets Vasic, she is fearful of his intentions, but he proves to be trustworthy, and she starts to see him as more than just a Arrow, she starts to see him as a man with a soul. Ivy feels a emotional bond to Vasic, but his exterior shield is like ice, impenetrable, but like ice, it can also be weakened by heat. Ivy is determined to show Vasic the power of love and emotion and the healing they can do for each other. That she can be his greatest strength in a time when their people need it most...

I have adored this author for so long, ever since I read the first book a few years back, when I started getting more into paranormal...and Singh changed my view on that genre. And I still adore her books, and Shield of Winter is no different. After reading Kaleb's book, I was hoping that in Shield of Winter we would see more of him and Sahara, and we see the other couples as well. We the Psy and Changelings combine forces to get to the bottom of what is killing of the Psy. There are many instances in this story that can be painful to see. But what I really loved was seeing Vasic get his story and find his mate. And Ivy was just wonderful, I loved having these two be a pair and they complimented each other so well. Vasic doesn't know emotion or feeling of any kind. Ivy is Psy but being a Empath her talents are so different from Vasic. Even though Ivy hasn't been conditioned like Vasic has been, she has her own demons from her past. The characters in this story were just phenomenal, and I really enjoyed seeing the personal growth...seeing Ivy and Vasic learn together and they are put through some vigorous tests that will prove them and the love that they share.

The story as a whole is pretty intense and thrilling, it just kept me on edge the whole time. With Singh at the helm, you just know that every time you read her, you know you will enjoy yourself...but I feel like her stories go way deeper than that. Its very dynamic and full of steamy action to keep you entertained for quite a while. You can never go wrong with Nalini Singh, and this book is proof of that. I would recommend if you are new to this author and series, you start at the beginning. The series of events that take place in this story may seem a bit confusing if you haven't read previous books.

Overall I found Shield Of Winter a exciting addition to the series. A story that is guaranteed to take you on a wild ride of a paranormal world where shape shifter and pysic powers are real and intense. Of a world that will carry you away in a story that is compelling and highly sensual and will thrill you down to your toes!! Be ready for a story to make your blood pound like never before!! THRILLING!!

Bride Of A Scottish Warrior

Bride Of A Scottish Warrior - Adrienne Basso Lady Grace, has been watching her husband, grow weaker from fever from a wound from a boar while hunting. She has stayed by his side, and when he makes a request from her, she can't refuse him. After he dies from his weakened condition, she is forced to leave, knowing the brothers of her late husband, will only use her for their own needs and greedy desires. While staying with her brother and his wife, her plan is to continue onto the convent, having feeling a need to atone for past sins. She grew up in the convent and desires to go back there. But her brother has different plans for her...he desires for her to find a husband and have children. When one of his battle buddies, a Sir Ewan Gilroy comes for a visit, desiring a opportunity to court and marry her. At first Grace is firm in her resolve to go to the convent, but Ewan is determined and is not a man to be swept away with foolish notions. His plan is to show Grace that he plans on keeping her as his, no matter what!

Bride Of A Scottish Warrior is the first book I have read from this author. I may have read her years ago, since her name is very familiar to me, and her writing was like visiting with a old friend. However, for the life of me, I can't recall which book of hers I had from her. So I will just claim this is the first book of hers that I can actually recall. I have recently seen this book pop up, quite often in ratings and reviews, and so I decided that I need to take a chance on this one. And I have a certain weakness for medieval historical romances...especially with a Scottish theme to it. This story takes place in the early 1300's, and I do love this time period. Its full of passion and raw sensuality that is so appealing and makes you crave for a time of kilts, sexy brogues, and Scottish castles and the kinship of clans.

Let me start with our magnificent hero, the bold and daring, Sir Ewan. What a man! Seriously I adored his character...I almost wanted to swoon just so he could catch me! LOL Unlike some heroes we see...he isn't intimidate by marriage or love or devotion...in fact he craves it, and desires it. And he goes in search of it. He wants someone to share and build his life with and he won't settle for less. I loved how he is afraid to search after what he wants, and holds nothing back. When he meets Grace...he knows she is the one. She is the one woman he wants for life, but there is one problem...she doesn't return that feeling. She admires him and respect him, but she has no interest in marrying anyone. Now onto the lovely Grace. She has such a stubborn personality....in fact too stubborn, but I am too....and so I felt a kinship towards her. I felt as I was reading this one...I could relate with her in so many ways. She is strong willed and very passionate even though she plans on entering a convent. What I really liked about her character was her willingness that when she makes a decision she stands by it with full heart and she is the perfect match for Ewan. They both have passionate natures, and I loved seeing them fight for each other in the end....and what a love affair they have.

The story isn't all roses and daisies though...there is a villain. Pretty good one too. He really puts these two through the wringer...but I found it was a good thing...it really makes them come together and fight for each other and the life they are building together. This was such a wonderful story...I enjoyed every single page. I was fighting for this couple all the way!! And those intimate scenes...were sensual and emotionally provoking....definitely had me needing a fan or even a cold bath...but they weren't super HOT, in fact tame compared to some other books I have read..but were so provocative and powerful in its intensity!! A story to win your heart....Heartwarming till the end!! WILL CAPTIVE AND STUN YOU!

True Love at Silver Creek Ranch

But Adam wants more than a few secret nights making love before the fire, he wants a future because he has fallen hard for Brooke...can he convince her to take a leap of faith?

True Love At Silver Creek Ranch is the second installment in the Valentine Valley series. Last year I was able to discover this author, and each time I read her....I am always impressed, and this installment is no different. There is so much in her books....that just satisfy every romantic urge in me when I am reading a romance novel. She always come out on top for me...which is rare for a contemporary romance...not many authors in this genre can do it for me like Emma Cane can. This story I have been wanting to read for quite sometime. I have seen this couple in some of the later books of the series, and I have been anxiously waiting for a chance to read this. So I just couldn't contain my excitement when I was able to grab this from the library shelves.

The story begins when there is a barn on fire, and horses inside, and Brooke being the only one home at the ranch, knows its up to her...but there is a strange man she runs into that beats her to it....sexy Adam Desantis. From that first moment of meeting, we see some sexual tension between the two. At first they do this whole flirting dance with each other, until well one moment they are talking, and Adam shoves Brooke against the wall and kisses the hell out of her....tingles...one of my favorite parts of the books. I do love a man that goes after what he wants. We also see some other aspects of the story, involvement of the old biddies of the town, in defense of a lingerie shop....I never get enough of these ladies, makes me wish this place was real and I could live there!!

This story is such a warm and tender romance that pulled at my heartstrings!! The characters were fiery and passionate, and full of enough zest to appeal to any reader. A story that is guaranteed to warm you on a cold winters night and watch out for the ending...it might bring a tear to your eye and leave a smile on your face!! CHARM IN EVERY CHAPTER!!
